Benching (also known as breadcrumbing) is when someone you’ve been dating stops agreeing to meet in person. However, they continue to contact you over message and social media. Essentially, they’re benching you while they continue with other options. They’re just keeping you as a potential backup in case their other options don’t pan out.
Example Use: “Things were going so well and now I barely hear from him, but he’ll drop a fire emoji on my Instagram every now and then and randomly say I miss you. Is he benching me?!”
